ravaged on superstorm sandy. snow that blanketed much of the northeast turned to rain along the coast. that, combined with powerful wind and high tide, caused flooding throughout seaside park, new jersey. most bay front homes took on water by late yesterday morning. firefighters had to go door to door to make sure that homeowners were okay. >>> the snow blowers are out in full force across the northeast this morning. residents are cleaning up after the winter -- get him! >> first major storm dumped up to 18 inches in the region. areas like buffalo, new york, and burlington, vermont, which are used to major winter storms, haven't seen this much snow since the 2012 winter season. travel is also still treacherous in many areas as roads are still snow covered. flight delays, all of that going on right now. >> i tell you, let's turn to veronica johnson. not even a little bit. >> this guy is not a snow lover, not a dusting, not an inch, not flurries that are pretty. i don't like it at all. >> you'll be inside saturday? >> i'll be as much out of it as i possibly can. >> is it going to get th

and the unimaginable damage from superstorm sandy and more. >>> we'll start with another winter storm getting ready to wallop a large swath of the country. maria larosa has the details. >> it places like arkansas just a few days ago under blizzard warnings. now we're talking about freezing rain advisories. also, the winter weather advisories. you see the advisories stretch back into the ohio valley, back into the northeast. that's basically the trail of the snow with this next system. so over the next 24 to 48 hours we'll see it develop. it will continue through the south with thunderstorms and showers. not to the extent of the severe weather with the last round, but you can see enough cold air you start to see the snow develop from ohio to pennsylvania. moving into d.c. overnight tonight, into philadelphia and new york by saturday morning and on up into boston by saturday afternoon. it's a quick mover. generally speaking, the snow totals will be on the light side. we'll start in the next 24 hours. ohio valley, indianapolis, you could end up with an additional 3 to 6 inches of snowfall. as it moves

for one more suspect, a 17-year-old with a teardrop tattoo under his left eye. it appears superstorm sandy took a bite out of metro's already lagging ridership. a report says the storm helped reduce ridership by nearly 10% in october. the transit agency lost nearly 2.5 million trips when it was shut down nearly two days. it lost $13 million in revenue. ridership is already down 5% before sandy hit the d.c. area in late october. excitement is building for sunday's cowboys and redskins game. to there's no denying that. fedex field will be packed and you can expect huge crowds at bars and restaurants and anywhere the game will be on tv. john gonzalez is at fedex field. i've seen pictures in the past on facebook of you. you've been at a lot of games. will you be at this one? >> i will try. it is a late game especially for us. it's the hottest ticket of the year in the d.c. area. the last time the redskins were in the playoffs was in 2006. that's part of the reason why this game was moved to a prime- time hour on national television. this is the big one. i can tell you, fans are really excited.

extra funding for superstorm sandy. they deal with working on the wireless surveillance from the bush era, reauthorizing that. the senate floor is active with a the lot of other things they have to get done. the house will come back on sunday and be in session on sunday. they were told to be prepared to go through january 2nd when their term ends. there are a lot of members who aren't coming back in january. there will be that transition. when you walk around here, mike, you have boxes in hallways, office chairs in the hallway. people are moving, so there are members who don't have an office anymore but here to vote to wait on whatever might happen. it's a time of transition. we were looking back. for a lame duck to be back between christmas and new year's, it hasn't happened since nixon was in office. sometimes they come back when it's not an end of term year, but that's a long time. it gives you an idea how unusual it is to spend the holidays right here at capitol hill. >> kelly o'donnell, thanks as always. we appreciate it. >> you bet. >> it's the chairs in the hallway of the depar
